Katy Perry One of the Boys CD Review

Katy Perry has a really nice voice. Her voice doesn’t fit all the way into a rock or a pop category. The unique tone of her voice is catchy. Katy’s album “One of the Boys” is one of the most popular albums of the summer season. Her song “I Kissed A Girl,” was a number one sensation. The song is not free from controversy, but it isn’t the only song on the album to raise an eyebrow or two. The song “Ur So Gay,” is about a man with feminine ways one can suspect.

Besides the songs that people love to talk about as being controversial, the song “Hot n Cold” is an upbeat song that the teen and twenty-something crowd will find appealing. The song “If You Can Afford,” me is a nice upbeat song. It would be a great song for an album soundtrack. The song “Lost,” is a melodic ballad. “Waking Up In Vegas” is a radio friendly rock song.

Katy Perry is destined for success. “One Of The Boys” is a breakout success for the new artists.

New Kids On The Block Greatest Hits CD Review

The New Kids on the Block were one of the biggest boy bands of all time. The group hit their peak during the late 1980’s and the early 1990’s. The group disbanded in the early 90’s. Fans of the group were pleased when the group reconvened with the original line up in 2008 and hit the road touring. Not only is the group touring again, they have completed a brand new studio album titled “The Block.” The new album features all new material and the brand new single “Summertime.”

To promote the new tour and the new album, Sony Legacy Recordings has released the brand new album “New Kids on the Block Greatest Hits.” The 18 song disc features the groups most well known songs.

Popular up-tempo singles “Step by Step,” “You Got It (The Right Stuff),” and “Hangin’ Tough” are all here. Classic ballads “I’ll Be Loving You Forever,” “Valentine Girl,” and “Please Don’t Go Girl,” are all here. The biggest New Kids on the Block hits are here. The set is not without the songs “Tonight,” “Games,” and “Cover Girl.” The songs “Dirty Dawg” and “This One’s For The Children,” are not featured on this greatest hits compilation.

Included on the set are several solo songs. The song “The Right Combination,” by Seiko featuring Donnie Wahlberg is featured on this compilation as well as “Angel of Love,” the song by Ana with Jordan Knight. Joey McIntyre’s solo song “Stay The Same” is featured on the disc. The compilation closes with the “2008 New Kids On the Block Mega Mix.” This mix sounds like it was thrown together with bits and pieces of the groups biggest hits. More effort could have been placed into this mega mix.

Overall, “New Kids On The Block Greatest Hits,” is a great investment. The disc features a pull out poster which features tour dates and a brand new color booklet. Fans of New Kids on the Block will be very pleased.

Madonna Hard Candy Review

Madonna has released her latest CD “Hard Candy.” The twelve track CD is her best release to date. The album is comprised primarily of up-tempo and dance tracks. The tracks are more melodic, urban and dance floor quality rather than techno. The album’s first single was the huge single “4 Minutes,” featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. “Hard Candy” is a very modern Madonna album. Fans of current pop artists will relate to the album. Fans who enjoy Madonna classic’s such as “Holiday,” “Music,” and “Into the Groove,” will enjoy the updated yet familiar sound of “Hard Candy.”

“Candy Shop” is a cool mid-tempo track produced by Pharrell Williams. Pharrell actually produces a handful of songs on the album. “Give It To Me,” is a fast paced urban pop synth inspired song with a futuristic edge. “Heartbeat” is a funky track with a nice melodic chorus. “Miles Away” is a laid back song that fits nicely on the album. “She’s Not Me” is a sassy song that stands out on the album. It’s the perfect get back at the wrong guy song. “Incredible” is one of the best songs on the album. One thing that is instantly noticeable on “Hard Candy” is the fact that the album blends together very continuously. “Beat Goes On,” is a funky club friendly track. “Dance 2Night” is another equally funky urban flavored track. “Spanish Lesson” is a fast paced salsa inspired track. “Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You,” is a very memorable song for Madonna. It’s a really great song. The album closes with the song “Voices,” which is another funky track.

Music fans will appreciate the appearances on “Hard Candy” by producer’s Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West and Timbaland.

“Hard Candy” is Madonna’s best album in many years. It’s a great collection of songs that are great for the summer and the club. There isn’t one ballad in the bunch. The album features production by Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Danja and Kanye West.

Mariah Carey E=MC2 CD Review

Mariah Carey is back with her latest release “E=MC (2)” The album follows up her hugely successful album “The Adventures of Mimi.” “E=MC (2)” features 14 brand new tracks. The album opens up with the funky song “Migrate” featuring T-Pain. This could easily be a single. The song is very radio friendly. “Migrate” is followed up by the album’s first single the #1 song “Touch My Body.” “Touch My Body” is a bouncy song that has become a favorite among Mariah fans. One of the funkiest songs on the album is the song “Cruise Control” featuring Damian Marley. “I Stay In Love,” and “Love Story” are classic Mariah love songs. The song “Bye Bye,” is a song that will strike a chord with people who have lost the special someone that they love. It’s a memorable Mariah Carey love song. Mariah fans will cling to this song. Although Mariah is very well known for her love songs and ballads, she is also remembered for her funky hip-hop inspired songs. “Side Effects” featuring Young Jeezy is a hip-hop flavored that Mariah’s young audience will appreciate. “O.O.C.” is a roller skating friendly up-tempo song. Mariah fans will be pleased with “E-MC (2).” It’s a great follow up to the “Adventures of Mimi.”

Craig David Trust Me CD Review

R&B singer Craig David has released his fourth CD “Trust Me.” The album is available in the United States, which is a plus for fans of the international singer. The U.K. singer is best known in the U.S. for his hits “Fill Me In,” and “7 Days” from his early release “Born To Do It.” “Trust Me,” is a funky collection of eleven songs. The first single from the album, “Hot Stuff,” is an up-tempo dance track that borrows a sample from the David Bowie classic “Let’s Dance.” “Friday Night” is a great funky R&B flavored song.

The U.K. second single, “6 of 1 Thing,” is a really awesome song. The vocals are really good and the music is far different than anything Craig David has ever released. It’s guaranteed to spawn re-mixes and it’s a great dance song. “Awkward” is a mellow laid back soulful track. It’s one of the stand out songs on the album. “Just A Reminder” is a smooth R&B album track. “Officially Yours” is a beautiful song. It’s one of Craig David’s most memorable ballads. It’s really a great song. It was the third single released from the album in the U.K.

“Kinda Girl for Me,” is a mid-tempo song that borrows from a classic sample. It’s a nice summer time type of song. “She’s on Fire,” is one of the hottest songs on the album. It’s crazy funky. Craig David really did a great job on this song and his fans will be pleased. “Don’t Play With Our Love,” is a crazy dance track. Craig David’s vocals are on point and the music is fantastic. Performed with a live band, “Don’t Play With Our Love,” is another stand out track on the album.

“Top of the Hill,” is a slow song. It’s not quite a ballad. It’s kind of melancholy in nature, it’s storytelling in nature reminiscent of the song “Johnny,” from his third album “The Story Goes…” The album ends with the song “This Is The Girl,” featuring U.K R&B artist Kano. This fast tempo song is a great way to end the album.

Craig David fans will really be pleased with “Trust Me.” The album displays Craig David’s growth as an artist as he delves more into his own unique style of R&B. “Trust Me,” is not the kind of album that will put you to sleep. The up-tempo songs stand out and there are few ballads on the album. Craig David fans will enjoy “Trust Me.”

I Think I Love My Wife DVD Review

The Chris Rock movie I Think I Love My Wife is now available on DVD. Chris Rock is one of the most successful comedienne of our time. He is also well known for his acting roles and his stand up performances. I Think I Love My Wife was written and directed by Chris Rock.

Chris Rock is known for making jokes about love and marriage, including the challenge of staying faithful. I Think I Love My Wife, is a romantic comedy about a man who is married who is faced with the challenge of deciding whether or not to stray when he becomes tempted by a woman from his friend's past. Gina Torres, (real life wife of Laurence Fishburne) stars in the film as Chris's wife and Kerry Washington, who appeared in the movie Ray stars as the seductive temptress. As with most Chris Rock movies, the laughs are plentiful. I Think I Love My Wife is an enjoyable comedy about love and marriage. Married couples and people who are thinking about getting married with enjoy watching the film and the film provides plenty of ideas for commentary about the subject of marriage and being faithful. Bonus features include deleted scenes, featurettes, and the music video for I Dont Know (Why I Love You) by The Brand New Heavies.

The List Starring Wayne Brady DVD Review

The American Black Film Festival DVD series has released a funny romantic comedy starring well-known comedienne Wayne Brady and Hollywood acting royalty Sydney Tamiia Poiter (Syndey Poiter's daughter). The List is a romantic comedy that features a cast of well known African-American actors. Wayne Brady stars in the film as a man named Lewis. Lewis is a man with a big heart who puts everything on the line for love and find himself dumped by the woman of his dreams on live TV. Heartbroken, Lewis decides to create a list of what he wants in the perfect woman.

Sticking to his list, Lewis sets out to meet the woman who meets all of his standard. He meets Cecile and she is everything he wants in a woman. The question is can he make it work between them? The List is an enjoyable comedy and it was a feature presentation at the American Black Film Festival. Warner Bros. releases the American Black Film Festival DVD series.

Also appearing in The List are Flex Alexander, Tatyana Ali, and Malcolm Jamal Warner. The List is now available on DVD.

Degrassi High The Complete Collection

WGBH Boston really went out of there way to please fans of Degrassi High. The shows arrival on DVD has been very anticipated. Degrassi High is the television show that aired after Degrassi Junior High stopped airing back in the 80's. The show featured the same cast of characters from Degrassi Junior High and chronicled their high school years. The show aired for two seasons and the DVD release includes all 28 episodes of the show.

The first season starts with the kids entering high school and getting reacquainted. Always known for dealing with controversial topics, the season begins with a two part episode titled A New Start. One of the twins is pregnant after a summer fling and they have to determine how to proceed. Spike is back and Degrassi and her daughter is in daycare. She is best friends with Liz and starts dating a new guy named Patrick. The gang of Joey, Wheels and Snake are as tight as ever and share their misadventures when it comes to girls, grades and most importantly cars, as cars bring newfound freedom. Some characters from Degrassi Junior High get a little more exposure at Degrassi High. The known bully Dwayne faces a health crisis he struggles to keep secret, worried that it might affect his image. Lucy is still a big flirt and she finds interest in film making. L.D. isn't featured as much in this series as she is faced with a health crisis that leaves her in the hospital for much of the series. Caitlin finds interest in various causes and dates a new guy at school named Claude for a short time. Michelle is still in her interracial relationship with B.L.T. but its her family situation and her school situation which puts her under a great strain. Keeping with the format of the show, all of the cast members have their time with various hard hitting storylines during the season.

Its a great series and you could really sit down and watch the entire series in a weekend. Teens today will find the show beneficial and fans of Degrassi The Next Generation may also enjoy the series which features several of the cast members of that show. A great bonus is that the DVD set includes the Degrassi movie Schools Out. This has long been a favorite that fans have been waiting for on DVD.

This release completes the Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High collection on DVD. The four disc set includes twenty eight episodes of the series and the movie Schools Out is featured on the fourth disc. Bonus materials include pop quiz, Degrassi High wallpaper, printable materials and printable cast interviews.
